About Us
What does the Animal Party Cyprus aim to achieve?
Animal cruelty is an unfortunate and all-too-common feature of Cypriot society that must come to an end.
Several non-government organisations, groups and individuals have been tackling animal welfare issues at ground level from various perspectives to-date; however there’s an immediate urgency to bring much-needed influence to this agenda from a government policy dimension.
We want to give animals a voice where the descisions are made for them without them having a say!
Animal Party Cyprus
For the well being of animals, people and nature
• Animal Party Cyprus (APC) is a new entity that was born in April 2014. The movement has been established to work for the inclusion of effective animal welfare strategies and infrastructure within the political decision-making system of Cyprus.
• We see ourselves as part of the growing worldwide network of Political Parties specifically for Animal Welfare and related human issues worldwide. Some of these are the fastest-growing parties in their countries. There are now political parties for animals in 14 European countries.
• We encourage all EU citizens who have been resident in Cyprus for 6 months to register themselves on the Voters’ Roll, and we advise them on how to do this. They can then use their vote in 1) EU Parliamentary elections and 2) Local Authority elections (and possibly in the future National Elections too).
• There is a substantial and long-standing problem of animal neglect and abuse in our country. In addition, of late there have been cases of deliberate savage killing of animals that are of great concern to (a) the moral fabric of Cyprus in the present climate of economic struggle and consequent disillusionment, and (b) the negative image of Cyprus as a tourist destination that is spreading at an alarming rate through Facebook and other social media.
• We are currently campaigning for the creation of a post of Commissioner/Advisor on Animal Legal &Welfare Issues. The incumbent must have a proven lengthy record of animal welfare work; experience within the political system; and in-depth knowledge of the various legislation. This role would enable pressure on the various stakeholders to assume their responsibilities and effectively begin to address the various problems using legal means, as well as public awareness-raising and education.

Look at any ecosystem and there could be multiple forms of contamination—streams full of toxic chemicals from industrial processes, rivers overloaded with nutrients from farms, trash blowing away from landfills, city skies covered in smog. Even landscapes that appear pristine can experience the effects of pollution sources located hundreds or thousands of miles away. Pollution may muddy landscapes, poison soils and waterways, or kill plants and animals. Humans are also regularly harmed by pollution. Long-term exposure to air pollution, for example, can lead to chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer and other diseases. Toxic chemicals that accumulate in top predators can make some species unsafe to eat..
